"Christmas at the Clubs" Brings Holiday Cheer to San Antonio Youth
San Antonio -- Dec. 1, 2005

Companies, groups and individuals can help brighten the holidays for hundreds of young people in San Antonio by participating in the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio's "Christmas at the Clubs" gift program.

"Christmas at the Clubs" participants are assigned a child and will receive a tag with a child's name, age and "wish list" of three gift items on it. The donor is asked to purchase one of the three items on the list, wrap it, and return it with the "wish list" tag attached to the gift. Donors may request assignments for more than one child.

"'Christmas at the Clubs' is a wonderful way to make the holidays a very special time for these deserving kids," said Jim Watson, executive director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio. "These children represent some of the best hopes for our community's future and this program is more than just a gift initiative -- it's an investment in our youth."

The deadline for receiving an assigned child or children is Wednesday, Dec. 14, and gifts are to be delivered to the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio's administrative office at 600 SW 19th Street by 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16. Santa Claus will visit the area Boys and Girls Clubs during the week before Christmas to distribute the donated gifts.

Last year, more than 500 children received Christmas gifts through the "Christmas at the Clubs" program. For more information about "Christmas at the Clubs," contact Carol Treviņo at (210) 436-0686 or at ctrevino@bgcsatx.org.

Founded in 1939, the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio serve more than 6,000 members annually at five branch locations. Clubs provide after school and summer program services that develop talents, values and skills in youth ages six-to-18 years old, paying particular attention to those most disadvantaged. As a result of the Clubs programs, young people are inspired and enabled to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
