Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio to Celebrate National Family Week, Nov. 19-25
San Antonio -- Nov. 9, 2006

During the week of Thanksgiving, the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio (BGCSA) will join thousands across the nation to celebrate National Family Week by paying tribute to families and community organizations that enhance the family structure. Joining the efforts of the National Alliance for Children and Families, BGCSA will host a community lunch at the Clubs' Teen Center, 2626 Perez Street, on Monday, Nov. 20, at noon.

Additional National Family Week activities planned by BGCSA youth include delivering Thanksgiving dinners to homebound seniors as part of the Meals on Wheels program on Thursday, Nov. 23, and hosting "Sandwiches under the Stars" for the homeless under the West Commerce Street Bridge on Friday, Nov. 24.

"Our community lunch on Nov. 20 kicks off our National Family Week activities and we anticipate having 200 to 300 members of the community join our youth for this festive occasion," said Jim Watson, executive director of the BGCSA. "This event follows the previous week's community Thanksgiving dinners we will have held at the Redeeming Grace, Crestholme, Calderon and Eastside branches. Together, these meals are expected to serve more than 1,500 residents of the neighborhoods in which we operate our Clubs."

The Boys & Girls Clubs of America's family support initiatives are supported by Kimberly-Clark, with the goal of enhancing the lives of young people by fostering the needs of the entire family. National Family Week is a strong acknowledgement of the fact that families and family development organizations help shape our communities and our country.

National Family Week was founded in 1968 by Sam Wiley, a teacher and school administrator in Indianapolis. For more than 30 years, the National Alliance for Children and Families, a nonprofit membership association representing children and family service organizations in the U.S. and Canada has directed National Family Week, with support from the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

Both the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Kimberly-Clark are working to enhance the lives of children by creating a positive atmosphere to increase resources for maintaining stable families. To learn more about the BGCSA's National Family Week activities, call 210-436-0686.
