WHAT: Book signing event to launch the
"Heartbeat of Heroism" book of essays and poems written
by teen members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San
Antonio.
WHEN: Saturday, April 12, at 1 p.m.
WHERE: Barnes & Noble Bookstore, 12635 IH 10 W
(near the De Zavala exit).
WHY: The "Heartbeat of Heroism" book is the
culmination of a six-week creative writing workshop led
by Hope, Faith & Dreams Foundation founder/director,
Amando Camina. The theme of the workshop was simple:
Express Life through Truth. Twenty inner-city teens from
the West side and East side of San Antonio participated
in the workshop last summer. With newfound courage,
these aspiring writers expressed their feelings and
experiences through the written word.
This book takes its readers on an all-too-real
journey that explores the searing reality that these
teens face in their communities. They decry the
violence, gangs and drugs that plague their east and
west side neighborhoods and embark on a search for inner
peace and Truth. Through creative expression, they seek
to make a difference in their own lives and those lives
around them.
About the Boys & Girls Clubs
Founded in 1939, the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio
serve more than 6,500 members annually. The Clubs
provide after school and summer programs that develop
talents, values and skills in youth ages six-to-18 years
old, paying particular attention to those who need them
most. As a result of the Clubs programs, young people
are inspired and enabled to realize their full potential
as productive, responsible and caring citizens. For more
