Teen Center members help Blue Bell Creameries celebrate
100th anniversary
In February, members of the San Antonio Boys & Girls
Clubs Teen Center were treated to a sneak preview party
to celebrate Blue Bell Creameries 100th Anniversary in
San Antonio. Club members checked out the company’s
“Texas-sized” traveling exhibit at Brackenridge Park’s
Sunken Gardens area.

Teen Center members enjoyed the Blue Bell 100th
anniversary exhibit and bounce house. Pictured left to
right are Jon Vogt, Bill Felty (Branch Director), Alex
Gonzalez, Phillip Sanders, Jessica Cavazos, Kayla
Martinez, Amanda Perez (Teen Coordinator) and Michael
Rodriguez.
The exhibit consisted of a tractor-trailer rig outfitted
with displays, videos and interactive kiosks portraying
the history of the company, how Blue Bell makes its ice
cream and much more. The group also enjoyed free samples
of ice cream and the Blue Bell bounce house.

traveling exhibit.
Sandwiches Under the Stars
Teen Center members continued to deliver meals and
drinks to the homeless outside the SAAMinistries shelter
during the spring. As Club members have become aware of
the needs of the people staying at the shelter, they
have begun a collection of clothing, baby items and
personal hygiene items. Several of the teens involved
with this project have commented that helping those less
fortunate than themselves has made them realize how
important it is to stay in school, work hard and
continue to strive toward their goals.
Teen Center Member Named Regional Youth of the Year
Teen Center member Jon Vogt was named Youth of the Year
for South Texas on February 3 in Edinburg. The Youth of
the Year honor recognizes outstanding contributions to a
member's family, school, community and the Boys & Girls
Clubs. This program was founded 60 years ago through the
generosity of the Reader's Digest Foundation.
Vogt, age 17, graduated in May from Southwest High
School. He will attend Texas Tech University in the
fall, where he will major in Pre-Law. Vogt is actively
involved with numerous community activities, including
mentoring other youth, feeding the homeless and graffiti
clean-ups. In school, he has participated in numerous
extracurricular activities, including Student Council,
the Criminal Justice Club, Track and the UIL Speech
Team. He has consistently ranked in the top 10 percent
of his class.
