Law Enforcement Spaghetti Dinner a Big Success
In February, the Crestholme Branch hosted an evening to honor area law enforcement personnel, complete with a spaghetti dinner, entertainment, and an awards presentation. The event provided special recognition to law enforcement personnel who serve as volunteers and mentors in the Boys & Girls Clubs after-school science curriculum, Immersion Presents!, which was developed by famed oceanographer, Dr. Robert Ballard, the Mystic Aquarium and the Institute for Exploration.

Crestholme's Torch Club and Science Club members participated in the decorations and food preparation and were joined by members from the Calderon and Eastside branches in making the event a great success. Law enforcement officers from the San Antonio Police Department, the Parks and Recreation Department, Edgewood ISD Police Department, Special Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and three Bexar County judges attended the event.

National Boys & Girls Clubs Week Celebration Held
The Crestholme Branch held a fun-filled festival for members and their families in celebration of National Boys & Girls Clubs Week On March 30. Members took part in a host of activities, including a dunk tank, baseball pitch, basketball shoot-out, a moonwalk, a dance contest, and a hot dog-eating contest. A number of parents turned out to lend a hand to cook, serve and make cotton candy and sno-cones.

Learning about Science with Immersion Presents!
Members of the Crestholme Club continued to learn about science topics in the Immersion Presents! after-school program during the spring. In the "Life at the Extremes" curriculum, they learned about underwater hydrothermal vents. In addition, Club members conducted experiments that focused on learning about the role of exothermic (heat release) reactions in chemistry.

Making Sense of Dollars and Cents
This spring, Crestholme implemented the Citi Group Financial Education Program, an initiative designed to teach youth about the importance of managing money responsibly. Even the kindergarten-level Club members learned about where money comes from, how it's earned and how it's valued. An added bonus from this program is the opportunity for members to hone their math skills.
